The Purpose of Child Dedication
Child dedication is the act of giving back to God the gift of your child and a sign of appreciation and commitment to raising them in a Christian home. It also offers the congregation the opportunity to partner with the parents in helping to provide a Christian environment that promotes Christian values in the child's life.

The purpose of child dedication is not to preserve the eternal destination of a child should they loose their life before making a commitment to Christ.

2 Samuel 12:22-23; "He answered, "While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, 'Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let the child live.' But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me."

Examples of Child Dedication in the Bible:
As an infant, Jesus was not baptized, but was dedicated to the Lord by His parents (Luke 2:21-23).

As an infant, Samuel was dedicated to the Lord by his mother (1 Samuel 1:21-28).

Conclusion:

Parents do not have to dedicate or baptize their infants/children in order for them to go to heaven, but should dedicate them as a symbol of their appreciation and commitment to raise them in a Christian home.

If you would like to have your child dedicated to the Lord during one of our upcoming child dedication services, then simply email the church office at lucy@jscrossroads.org.
