My Season of Victory
Fasting has been the most powerful spiritual discipline that I have ever experienced. Last year was the first time that I felt God call me to a prolonged season of fasting and prayer. At first, I was not sure God was speaking to me because I love to eat. Some people eat to live and others live to eat and I am one of the latter.
The Lord kept speaking and, once I was ready to listen, I knew it was for me. I knew it was God calling me to fast for 21 days in January. I asked the great people of Crossroads to join together with me for 21 days of fasting and prayer to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. I felt that I was prepared to fulfill Gods call to fast. What I wasn’t prepared for was the year of amazing blessings that followed.
Jesus said to seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33). I can tell you that fasting 21 days of all food was not the easiest thing to do, but it was by far the most powerful act of obedience I’ve ever done.
Before I fasted, I made a list of the things I wanted to see God do in my life, my family, and our church. I can honestly say that I would have been impressed if God answered half of them. As I type this letter I can tell you that God not only answered 100% of the items on that list, but He blessed me with much more. The Bible says in Psalms 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” That is exactly what I did and that is exactly what God did!
That is how God works. He wants to give you more than you even know you want. He wants to bless you with a new season of victory and blessing and healing and show you that you truly are the object of His love. Remember, He created you before you were in your mother’s womb and don’t you think He wants to show you this year that He still remembers how special you are to Him?
I think He does. So, please consider joining me and the many others at Crossroads Community Church for 21 days of prayer and fasting.
May the Lord Bless your fast,
Pastor John
